Pretty Hair - Pretty You
It is our desire at Wig Creations to help you look and feel your best
in your "new hair" while you are experiencing hair loss due to
chemotherapy, radiation or alopecia. Our goal is to have you feel as good about
yourself as possible so you can better cope with your situation. We will also
show you how to wear hair alternatives, scarves, make-up and eyelashes.
Children are special to us at Wig Creations. We cater to "new
hair" needs of children and teenagers (Moms and Dads, we only stock
natural hair colors).
We encourage you to come in prior to experiencing hair loss or trauma due to
hair loss. You will find it immensely helpful to bring a friend or relative to
help you make your selection. They can help you ask all the questions about
what to expect with your new hair, They can also help reassure you about how
pretty you look in your new hair. Their support will be a real blessing to you
as you make your choices.

Special Care Instructions:
Carefully read these instructions to extend the life of your wig and to
keep it looking nice.
Special Note:
We have found over the years that certain medications and fevers can cause
your body temperature to rise. When the hair of the wig touches you, it can
cause your wig to frizz, even through your clothing.
Do's
- Wash your wig or hairpiece after wearing it twenty to thirty times. Use a
wig shampoo and a separate wig conditioner specifically formulated to clean and
condition synthetic hair.
- Keep your wig on a styrofoam or wig saver head to maintain shape.
- When styling your wig, use your fingertips, wire brush, pick or wig life
comb. Please ask for specific styling instructions for your wig. Each wig style
requires special separate instructions.
- Wigs are adjustable: There are two velcro tabs, hooks that fit into slots
at the nape of the wig, and slide adjustments. To adjust fit, the closer to the
center of the wig, the tighter the fit will be. Away from the center, the
larger the wig will be. The wig should be snug but not tight. Fitting the wig
too tightly will cause the wig to feel like it is going to pop off your head.
Some people with extra large heads may need to have their wigs stretched. Some
people with extra small heads may need to have tucks taken in the wig.
- Ear tabs: Each wig has ear tabs. These tabs are located at the temple area.
When these tabs are equal on your head, the wig is on straight.
- Only use products specifically formulated for synthetic wigs and
hairpieces.
- When wearing long wigs or hair pieces, pull hair to one side to avoid
damaging hair while driving or riding in a car, as the friction and heat can
cause the wig to friz.
- To control fly-away strands of hair, lightly spray with a wig conditioner
on the wig; style as usual.
- Another option is to have Wig Creations by Coni do a custom styling
for your wig. After you have had your wig for six months to one year, bring
your wig back to us to be refurbished. There is a small charge for this
service.
Don'ts:
- Don't wear your wig or hairpiece near heat, such as: an open oven, boiling
water, steam, clothes dryers, barbecue grills, irons, wall furnaces, stove
burners, cigarette lighters, matches, electric frying equipment or fireplaces.
These heat sources can cause the fibres to melt and ruin your wig. Be careful
while cooking as many of these heat sources can cause your wig to frizz.
- Don't wear your wig or hairpiece while using a heating pad or hot water
bottle, if these items are to be used near the neck or head.
- Don't use drying aids such as blow dryers, hair
dryers or clothes dryers to dry your wig or hairpiece.
- Don't use curling irons, hot rollers or steam rollers as this will also
cause your wig or hairpiece to frizz.
- Don't brush your wig with a regular hairbrush, as the bristles are too
close together and will catch the hair and pull it out of the wefting.
- Don't drag a wire brush or comb through the hair as this will cause the
hair to relax and straighten.
- If you have a wig that says "do no
brush", please pick or use fingers to comb. Please ask for specific
instructions.
- Don't put your wig or hairpiece in the washing machine or dishwasher to
wash. Only wash it by hand.
- Don't use harsh shampoos, sprays or styling products as these items can
cause the wig to frizz or cause chemicals to build up on the hair fibres.
- Don't use permanent hair colors or permanents on your wig or hairpiece.
- Don't put your wig on a head form when the wig is wet as this will cause
the wig to stretch out of shape.
- Don't wear your long wig under your coat or sweater as the heat and
friction can cause the wig to frizz.
- Don't stand in front of furnaces or fireplaces.
- Don't sleep or nap in your wig or hairpiece as the friction and the heat
will cause the wig to frizz.
- Don't wear your wig or hairpiece in tanning booths, saunas, hot tubs, steam
rooms, jacuzzis, near heat lamps or while riding in hot air balloons.
- Don't wear your wig while exercising as the rise in body temperature may
cause your wig to frizz.
Cleaning & Conditioning:
- Use a shampoo specifically formulated to clean synthetic hair. Mix a capful
of shampoo with cold water in a sink basin. Immerse wig/hairpiece into shampoo
and water mixture and let it soak for five to ten minutes. Use a soft brush to
remove any makeup from around the edges of your wig/hairpiece. You may have to
pour a small amount of shampoo directly on the edge to remove the makeup. Check
the hair itself near the cheek area as sometimes blush gets on the hair in this
area. Gently use a soft brush to remove it.
- Rinse wig/hairpiece in cold water, filling sink three to four times or
until the wig/hairpiece has been thoroughly rinsed.
- Wrap your wig/hairpiece in a towel and gently pat to remove excess water.
Do not wring out the wig/hairpiece.
- Remove from towel and spray wig conditioner specially formulated for
synthetic wigs and hairpieces. The spray will come out in a fine mist. You will
need to spray fifteen to twenty times to cover the entire wig/hairpiece.
- Scrunch the hair fibres with your fingers to work in the conditioner. With
your fingers, style the wig to the original style by gently lifting up the
fibres with your fingers. Do not comb or brush your
wig/hairpiece while it is still wet as this will cause the hair to
become straight.
- For short wigs: Once you have finger-picked your wig, lay it on another
towel on its back to dry overnight.
- For medium to long wigs: Place wig/hairpiece face down on a towel and
scrunch hair as close to the cap as possible to form a ball. This will save the
curl pattern.
- For straight wigs and hairpieces: Ask for specific instructions.
- Do not hang wig or hairpiece to dry as water is heavy and the weight of the
water will cause the hair to straighten.
- Do not put your wig or hairpiece on a head form to dry as this will cause
the cap to stretch out of shape.
- Custom styling is available for a small fee.
Thank you for choosing Wig Creations by Coni. If we can be of further
assistance, please do not hesitate to call or stop by the store.
